Jewelry weavers and braiders love to mix many different types of beads and gems in their kumihimo patterns. While it is loads of fun to indulge in variety, it is always preferred that you buy the highest quality materials you can afford to create your beaded kumihimo pieces.
Big bold jewelry makes a fashion statement and is easy to wear. This stylish necklace and earrings set was made with luxurious Chinese Crystals and antique copper luster Japanese seed beads. The beautiful focal piece shimmers and dazzles are you move. Hoop earrings complete the posh set.
Why Japanese Seed Beads for Kumihimo Patterns?
I prefer to use Japanese seed beads in all my projects, especially when braiding kumihimo ropes. These beads have a uniform shape that makes the ropes look like natural smooth extensions of the textured focal piece.
Although they can be expensive, you are guaranteed to get top quality merchandise. So, if you are going to invest your time in making kumihimo patterns, use top-quality Japanese seed beads along with other fine jewelry supplies.
Working with Chinese Crystals
It’s easy to include crystals in your pieces. I use a lot of Chinese Crystals in my kumihimo patterns for “bling” as well as to make each piece look like fine jewelry. I’ve mainly worked with medium-size drop crystals, although I’ve seen them in other shapes and sizes.
In any event, the Chinese Crystals in this striking beaded kumihimo necklace worked great and were simple and fast to braid. I made sure to keep an even, tight tension while braiding so that the crystals would not shift when the piece was finished.
“…and before the throne there was something like a sea of glass, like crystal…” (Revelation 4:6)
