The pendant, by Stephanie White of Beads By Design, is made from the bottom of a recycled vintage Coca Cola bottle. Fine silver powder is added while the glass is hot to form a unique retro look to the finished spiral pendant.
The clever project is a great one to make to experiment with two sizes of seed beads. All you need to do is to string sizes 6-0 and 8-0 same color beads on strands of S-Lon cording and place them in the foam disk as desired for kumihimo braiding.
You’ll get some very interesting texture and depending on the bead placement, some clever light effects as well that are guaranteed to showcase the vibrant Coke bottle pendant.
Although the pendant in this necklace is placed in the center with a spacer bead on either side, it can be positioned anywhere along the side for an asymmetrical look while doing the kumihimo braiding. Add matching separator beads as desired to make the necklace unique.
Gifts Made with Kumihimo Braiding
For an extra special gift that will delight a favorite friend or family member, consider making your own version of this “thinking of you” kumihimo braiding project. It will be a thoughtful way to show how much you love and appreciate their friendship.
You can customize the necklace and change the colors to match a wardrobe and give it away to anyone you like and for any reason—or no reason at all.
