Check out this unusual beaded kumihimo necklace that’s made with Japanese glass cube beads in three distinct black hues. A three-part antique silver pendant set, etched to look like dragon scales, forms the center focus. Pewter end caps and a silver clasp complement the creative design.
Things You Will Need for Beaded Kumihimo Braiding
In addition to the normal kumihimo braiding supplies, you’ll need 560 cube beads for each rope on either side of the pendant (70 per strand of cording). You can braid with any kind of bead that has drilled holes large enough for the cording to pass through; but the Cubes and Scales Necklace is made with Miyuki 4mm Glass Cube beads.
Large pewter bead cones are placed over the ends of the ropes after you’ve completed the kumihimo braiding. You will also need a 6mm or larger “stop” bead to secure the bead cones.
The length of the necklace can be adjusted by adding a bit of chain to each end cap and then attaching the clasp to it. You can also plan upfront the length you desire and braid the additional length into each rope before finishing the beaded kumihimo project.
“And He has filled [her] with the Spirit of God, with wisdom, with understanding, with knowledge and with all kinds of skills–to make artistic designs for work in gold, silver and bronze…to engage in all kinds of artistic crafts.” (Exodus 35:31-33)
